[07.29.07] SebastiAn & KavinSky, Rapture, SebastiAn & KavinSky, Daft Punk ::

SebastiAn & KavinSky : Missed their opener….

Rapture: These guys were actually pretty good. Most of their songs sounded you know pretty much the same. It sounded as if they had sampled a few classic 80’s and 90’s tunes though. Good playing and they put on a decent show. Other then the constant; “We’re from New York.. can we get more lights on stage?”

SebastiAn & KavinSky : Caught them during the tear-down between Rapture and Daft Punk… egh, you know your standard Drum and Bass type stuff.. basically I don’t do the right drugs to listen to this stuff. :lol:

Daft Punk : O.M.G…!!!. This was one of the coolest and just most amazing musical light shows I’ve ever seen. They [Daft Punk] were only on stage for about an hour and forty five minutes and only did one encore performance… WHERE THEIR SUITS LIT UP!!!! It was just pure tits, big beatiful D’s… I will not miss another show of theirs if they come through the region again. I may even travel acrfoss country for them. So good… so worth every penny.

[04.06.07] ?, DJ Z-Trip ::

?: Missed the opening act.

DJ Z-Trip: Recap to come.

[03.24.07] ?, ?, Another Cynthia ::

?: Missed the opening act completely.

?: Came in during the second acts performances, it was sort of like Abercrombie meets Arizona State Punk. It was a good energy and “performance” but I couldn’t get into the music..

Another Cynthia: This is about the third or fourth time I’ve seen these guys play (the first time at the Fir) and let me just say… this was by far their best performance. The energy and performance was just spot on. And musically they were much improved from the last time I saw them at the ‘Pan. If they can take it to another level these guys will be “ones to watch”. Awesome show.

[02.14.07] Portastatic, Camera Obscura ::

Portastatic: These guys were good musicians but the song writing and guitar folky vibe they had was just a little stock for me. Sort of coffee house like motif but still good performance.

Camera Obscura: I will not miss a show of theirs if and when they pass through again, there must have been around five hundred people at the show and the energy was just electric. The old school Mo’Town vibe with a fusion of the old country is a really nice touch. These guys know how to rock. So, so, so, so good.

[02.10.07] ?, Marcus Eaton, Tim Reynolds ::

?: Can’t remember this Katz name but he was a nice pianist and had some cool tunes. Decent guitar player but overall great performer.

Marcus Eaton: This Kat was so good, amazing acoustic/electric guiatar playing… he used like a “boomerang” effect unit where he looped himself and played back with himself. So, so, good.

Tim Reynolds: Only one thing to say, Tim Reynolds.

[02.05.07] LifeSavas, The Roots ::

Life Savas: They were ok. Kind of stock hip-hop performance.

The Roots: Orgasmic, simply amazing I’m still in tears over this show probably the best live show I have ever seen to date, hip-hop or otherwise.

[01.06.07] ?, The Upsidedown, The Prids ::

?: Can’t recall who opened this show.

The Upsidedown: Great stuff here, was totally not expecting what I heard. Very groovy almost pyscha-vibe. Great light show and performance.

The Prids: As always, they totally rocked. I think they rocked harder then the first time I saw them. I think they may be on to something with thie entire: dude, dude, dude and chick roster. I’m just saying.

[12.21.06] ?, ?, The Devil Makes Three ::

?:

?:

The Devil Makes Three :: Good wasn’t expecting it, thanks to Grahm for this one. We started a flippin’ folk mosh pit, awesome.

[12.05.06] ?, Dan the Automator ::

?: The opening band were these Katz from out of San Fran and we caught them with a few different players when Dan was touring with the Handsome Boy Modeling School for their second album. These Katz were very good,

Dan the Automator: Dear lord, this was a great set put on by Dan. Along for the ride were Charli 2na, Casual and A.G., and yeah the opening band was also his ‘backing band’ during the show. Yeah live playing mixed with solid beat and Dj work.

So like usual Dan was his solid self.

Casual was great A.G. was good, but Charli 2na completely killed it. Because of his performance I will not miss the next J-5 show when they come through.

We rushed the side of the stage, I even got a high five from Charli 2na. I was like cool, but Spence went all girly after that. (GROUPIE)

So good once it hits your ears.

Also I will not miss a Dan the Automator performance here in the Po’Ville.

[11.25.06] The Cancer Fags, Boy Eats Drum Machine, Dat’r ::

The Cancert Fags: Interesting performance, Corban the Dj was playnig some pretty sweet backing stuff and the ‘front-man’ I forget his name was all about the performance. Sad that there weren’t more people to see them since they opened the show.

Boy Eats Drum Machine: O.M.G., one of the best bands I’ve ever seen live. Three Katz. A drum pad, live drum kit, turn tables, guitars, keys, and mad catchy tunes.

Purely vibrational ecstasy.

Now I want a turntable, Casio and microphone.

Because of this I’m required to love J-G forever. I’m indebted to her forever for introducing me to their sound. This is seriously some of the greatest music I’ve ever heard. I can not believe I had never heard of them before.

Dat’r: Crazy performance, they totally got into their stuff. Always nice to see. A few little gimicky type things like using game controllers to trigger sounds and a single crash cymbal standing to be plaid by one of the members but they had highly dancable tunes, and an infectious vibe. Will definately check them out again in the future.

[11.16.06] Another Cynthia, 120 Days, The Prids ::

Another Cynthia: Good performance, sound was horrible though venue had the guitars cranked to Lucas THX like levels..

120 Days: They were from Sweden or Denmark or something. They were good very dancey and mostly analog synth type sounds.

The Prids: What can I say, first time seeing these Katz and damn they rocked hard. The band members: dude, dude, dude and chick. They bring the energy and have tons of fun while doing it.

[10.08.06] ?, ?, Method Man ::

?: Can’t recall.

?: Can’t recall.

The Meth: Easily one of the best performances I’ve ever caught at the Roseland. Method had the VV in full affect. At one point he rushed the balcony by hoping the speaker system. And did a set from the balcony just a few feet away from us. Then he hopped down and crowed surfed like a Mickey Mouse club vet. Insane. This cat can still run circles around most mcees and has a stage presence that most Katz can’t even write about. (Myself included.) I’ll never miss a Method Man show in P.D.X. because of this one show.

[09.30.06] ?, Dj Z-Trip ::

?: Can’t recall.

Dj Z-Trip: I didn’t like the venue. But yeah it was so worth it. I will not miss a Z-Trip show in the PDX. We had even driven all the way up to Sea-Town for this one. And drove all the way back that same night. But it was so, so, so worth it. Like Pop Rocks and Pepsi.

[09.29.06] R.A. The Rugged Man, ?, Jedi Mind Tricks ::

R.A. The Rugged Man: Although he just used backing tracks and no Dj, he was outstanding. Definately catching him if and when he comes back through.

?: Can’t recall.

Jedi Mind Tricks: This was a pretty stock hip-hop east-coast thug-style show. Some of the mcees flows were good and the overall energy level was decent. Worth seeing at least once.
