[Music] It’s Like Deja Eghue
So some of you know that I’m not a huge fan of the entire do-over genre, meaning remakes. For the most part I think that if it was done and done well that there is no reason someone else needs to do it over, especially if it was a classic.
Sampling, remixing extended cuts being the exceptions it just really makes me go ; “Meh.” The last one that really annoyed me and I just can’t stand is Katy Perry’s remake of the Outfields class Your Love, which was retitled Use Your Love.

It’s not that I think no one should ever redo someone elses cut ever I just feel like if it’s going to be done you better bring the funk, not drop some post teen-bop-reversal-finger-snap off the cross beam.
One perfect example of how it should be done is what Mark Ronson did to “Britney Spears” track Toxic on hi sVersion album.
Mark Ronson – Toxic
Britney Spears – Toxic
What’s really genius about Mark’s version is that he throws ODB’s (RIP) Tiggers cut in their like it was written for it.
“Baby can’t you see/I’m calling/A girl like you/Should wear a warning/It’s dangerous, I’m falling/ … /Ohhh nigga I’m burnin’ up“
Genius. I never liked the song Toxic, but in this form I do, yeah I’m an ODB fan but that’s not the why… it’s because this record is constructed extremely well. Just listen to it a few dozen times (and you should).
The horns and damn near Stax style bounce… Brilliant.
But I digress.
You know I think I like B.o.B.’s version better than the Katy Perry remake.
B.o.B. – Use Your Love
I’m not blaming Katy mind you for the version she did, just her handlers. (I do blame her for those glasses though.)
Oh well… I guess I’ll just go listen to my Play Deep vinyl some more.
